Brief history of Delray

City of delray beach was Established in 1927

Delray Beach early beginnings  were that of a small farming community created by a man named William Linton (the street Linton Ave is now named after). After years of growth and the introduction of a railway straight through Delray Beach, the city was officially on the map.

The earliest known settlers of the Delray Beach area were Native Americans around the Lake Ida area. Soon after, the U.S. Coast Guard set up the Orange Grove House of Refuge to aid ship-wrecked sailors. As people began establishing themselves in the area, farming became a large industry with the abundance of fruit trees.

Fast forward nearly 100 years and a population boom has transformed the City of Delray into a bustling cultural center that is now a popular destination for any travelers. An attractive nightlife atmosphere, plenty of dining options, and shops for every one have made downtown Delray Beach a favored destination for tourists and residents.
